Connecticut - Today, November 7, 2018, a Blue Wave swept over Connecticut, as voters elected a Democratic Governor and a decisive Democratic majority of the State Senate. In response to these victories, DFER CT State Director Amy Dowell made the following statement:

“We congratulate Governor-elect Ned Lamont and Lt. Governor-elect Susan Bysiewicz on their hard fought victory. The people of Connecticut have spoken, giving a mandate for our state to continue efforts to create meaningful opportunities for students and citizens.

“Amidst this Blue Wave in our state, we also congratulate the Senate Democrats on their victories last night. We especially want to acknowledge Senate President Marty Looney and Senate Majority Leader Bob Duff for their continued leadership and tireless support of other Democratic candidates who will stand up for our values. In addition, we are proud that Change Course CT IEC, the independent expenditure associated with DFER CT, was able to mobilize voters on behalf of newly elected State Senators Christine Cohen, Mary Abrams, Will Haskell, and James Maroney.

“DFER CT looks forward to uniting with the Lamont Administration and all of our partners--elected leaders, families, and educators--to fix the education funding formula, ensure students are prepared for college and careers, and support fairness and opportunity for all public school students. Particularly in times like these, when our state faces economic difficulties, our leaders must prioritize the futures of children in Connecticut.”
