Dec. 22, 2020 — The following is a statement from Amy Dowell, Connecticut State Director for Democrats for Education Reform regarding President-Elect Biden's selection of Dr. Miguel Cardona as the next Secretary of the U.S. Department of Education:
“Democrats for Education Reform CT would like to congratulate Dr. Cardona on his nomination to be Secretary of the U.S. Department of Education. Dr. Cardona has been an advocate for Connecticut students throughout his time in office and a leader on issues of civil rights and equity, keeping an open door and open mind with all partners and stakeholders. His commitment to high standards, accountability, and providing students with high-quality learning experiences, especially throughout the COVID 19 pandemic, makes him an extremely worthy candidate for this position. This is a proud day for Connecticut and great news for America’s students.
“As Dr. Cardona transitions into his new role, we are eager to follow the selection process for Connecticut’s next Commissioner of Education. While our state continues to educate students throughout this global pandemic, we hope our next education leader will uphold Dr. Cardona’s commitment to keeping Connecticut classrooms open for learning, and maintain transparency and accountability so that we may follow every student’s progress during this unprecedented time.”
