DFER CT Congratulates Commissioner Cardona on Confirmation as US Education Secretary

March 1, 2021 — Today, following the confirmation of Dr. Miguel Cardona, Connecticut Commissioner of Education, as the next United States Education SecretaryAmy Dowell, Connecticut State Director for Democrats for Education Reform, made the following statement:

“Democrats for Education Reform CT congratulates Dr. Cardona on his confirmation. His charge is absolutely critical to our nation and its future: he is being entrusted by the Biden administration with charting the education policies that will guide us through what remains of the COVID-19 pandemic, and beyond. This is no small task, but one we are confident he is ready to meet head on. In Connecticut, Dr. Cardona is well-known and well-respected for his devotion to students, his advocacy in the areas of civil rights and equity, and his open and inclusive approach.

We trust that he will do his utmost to give students access to in-person, high-quality educational opportunities across the country. We also hope he will continue to hold education systems accountable, including assessing the impacts of this pandemic and systemic inequality, so we can set high-expectations for all students. This is a proud day for Connecticut and great news for America’s children."
