Right to Read CT Coalition Hosts 4th Virtual Forum
Experts and Legislators Discuss How the Science of Reading Support Students with Dyslexia
What: Thursday, March 25, Education Reform Now CT—in partnership with the Right to Read CT coalition—will participate in a virtual forum called, “A Literacy Model to Support Students with Dyslexia.” Hosted by our partner, the Connecticut Commission on Women, Children, Seniors, Equity & Opportunity (CWCSEO), the forum is the fourth in a series about a statewide literacy initiative to improve outcomes and learning for students and teachers. Previous segments of the series have explored why literacy is a matter of equity, CT's homegrown solution to the state's literacy crisis, and the need for a state-led response. In Part 4, experts in literacy and dyslexia will join Senators Patricia Billie Miller and Cathy Osten to discuss how the state can better support struggling readers.
This series of forums dovetails with a legislative effort to better prepare Connecticut educators and students, based on the science of reading. The proposed legislation before the General Assembly would systematize a statewide response to literacy, building off of the state’s homegrown solution.
Moderator: Steven Hernández, Executive Director for the Commission on Women, Children, Seniors, Equity & Opportunity
Amy Geary, CT State Task Force on Dyslexia
Suzanne Lang, Southport School CoLab
Hon. Patricia Billie Miller, State Senator
Hon. Cathy Osten, State Senator
When and Where: Thursday, March 25 at 5 pm | This event will be broadcast live via Facebook. Members of the press should register using the Zoom link for questions following the formal agenda at 6:00pm.
