DFER CT Applauds Governor on Immunizations:

Removing Religious Exemptions Keeps Classrooms Safe and Healthy for All Public School Students

Today, the news broke that Governor Lamont and Public Health Commissioner Coleman-Mitchell are expected to announce their support for a repeal of religious exemptions from school immunization requirements on Monday. In response, DFER CT State Director Amy Dowell made the following statement:

“We applaud Governor Lamont for taking this stance, and we greatly appreciate his leadership. Every student in Connecticut has a fundamental right to a safe and healthy classroom as a precondition to learning. Removing religious exemptions is one important way to safeguard these rights. We should listen to doctors on this topic, who have said loud and clear that vaccinations lead to healthier kids and a healthier public. Again, we want to thank the Governor and Commissioner Coleman-Mitchell, as well as legislative leaders who have spoken out on this issue. It's our sincere hope that the General Assembly takes action to remove this exemption."
