New Members of the DFER Family

This weekly segment by Democrats for Education Reform CT looks at the top education stories Democrats are watching, providing bite-sized analysis and links to recent articles. This week, a quick look at the members of the DFER family.

An Update from Our Annual Event

Governor Malloy and Leaders Across the Country Convene

The Connecticut Governor gave a moving and meaningful speech about the need, not only to distribute opportunity in education, but to distribute success.

He argued that we know what works for students, and that it’s now a matter of holding ourselves accountable for doing it. You can watch his speech here.

Later at the event, our affiliate organization, Education Reform Now, released a mini-documentary about our work to elevate elected officials who are champions for improving public education. The video features leaders like Colorado Governor-elect Jared Polis; Connecticut Senator Douglas McCrory and Senator-elect Will Haskell; and other elected officials across the country who are Democrats for Education Reform–leaders who are standing up together to confront policies that don’t work for America’s students, and to expand policies that do.

Overall, this year’s Philos convening served as a space for influential speakers and thought leaders to tackle the policy issues facing education reform today. Together, we engaged in discussions of topics such as: plans for 2020, learning through trauma and adversity, diversity in higher education, and more. It was as informative as it was inspiring, and we’re already excited for next year. (Stay tuned for details on the annual event!)
