FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: DFER CT Congratulates New Chairs of Ed Committee

Connecticut – Today, January 16, 2019, Democrats for Education Reform CT congratulated Senator Douglas McCrory and Representative Robert Sanchez on being named as Co-Chairs of the Education Committee of the Connecticut General Assembly on the morning of their first convening.  

“We congratulate Senator McCrory and Representative Sanchez on their appointments as Co-Chairs of the Education Committee,” said Amy Dowell, DFER CT State Director. “The new leadership of the Committee represents a sea change for Connecticut students, and we are excited about the progress to be made on behalf of all Connecticut students.”

“During the 2018 midterms, Connecticut saw many elections won on progressive values,” Dowell observed. “Among those values, we must include opportunity and high standards through education for all. As a reflection of that goal, the chairs of this critical committee both represent designated Alliance Districts for the first time in years, serving diverse and high-need families. We hope that their leadership, as long-time educators, advocates, and legislators, will reorient the work of improving public education in Connecticut and help close lingering disparities. We look forward to working together and are optimistic as we head into the 2019 session and beyond.”
